Australia - Team of the Century

During the year 2000 the author organised an election for the Australian team of the century through a mailing list on Australian football. For each position, 15 players were suggested, but others could be chosen.

Introduction

Thanks to all people who helped me for the voting of Australia’s Team of the Millennium. A few more words, before I came to the first result. This was just for fun. I used a System they used here in Europe too and its a fair one. Its not easy to make a pale vote, because the old days are gone, and we know most of the players just out of books. But for that, the result was great. The Oldies got a lot of points, so that shows me, that many people can remember them, and if its only out of the books. The Football today is totally different, but I had a few older guys in my voting list, who knows a lot about these days. I was happy and proud to have an Olyroo from the Olympic games 1956 in Melbourne and a World Cup Socceroo from 1974, in my list. It was very interesting to see how they vote.

Some final results are very close and I think we have a few surprises. I checked the results a lot of times, so I can say, there is no mistake in it. If you put all the per cent together, its less than 100%, that’s no mistake, because I listed only the first ten of every vote. I think its a great Team, but we have no chance to see them ever play.
