Brazil - Championship Player of the Year ("Bola de Ouro")

Since 1970 the Brazilian soccer magazine Placar gives the "Bola de Prata" (Silver Ball) award to each one of the best players on each field position (i.e. 11 awards) during the Brazilian Championship. The award is given based on scores given by Placar journalists during each match in which each player participated.

Note that Pelé, who played for Santos until 1974, was considered 'hors-concours' and could not win this award.

Since 1973, among the "Bola de Prata" winners the one with the best score is the winner of the "Bola de Ouro" (Golden Ball); therefore considered the Best Player of the Brazilian Championship.
