Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu  (Madrid-Spain) 1979-2018

This trophy is dedicated to the memory of long-time Real Madrid president D. Santiago Bernabéu.
From 1979 to 1984 and in 1986 it was contested by 4 teams, with semifinals, third place match and final; in 1985 and since 1987 only one match between Real Madrid and an invited team was played. The 2002 tournament consisted again of 4 teams, on the special occasion of Real Madrid's centenary; Real Madrid were founded on March 6, 2002.
Santiago Bernabéu Yeste (Almansa (Albacete), June 8, 1895 – June 2, 1978) was one of the single most important men in Real Madrid's history, and the one to whom credit can be given for transforming Real Madrid from the second most successful club in Madrid into the most successful in Spain, and one of the most successful in Europe. The team's current stadium is named in his honour.
Founded in 1902, Real Madrid CF has since spent all of its history in the top flight of Spanish football.
Since 1905-1920 the club´s name is Madrid Football Club, in 1920, the club's name was changed to Real Madrid FC after King Alfonso XIII.
With the dissolution of the monarchy in 1931-1941, all the royal symbols (the crown on the crest and the title of Real) were eliminated, and the club´s name is Madrid FC.
In 1941, and the club´s name are Real Madrid CF , two years after the end of the Civil War, the crest's "Real Corona", or "Royal Crown", was restored.
