NB: It was third consecutive final for AS FNIS.
NB: 2 players of Espoir FC, Abdoul Majid Zabeirou and Aboubacar Alassane,
died in a traffic accident which took 13 lives on Sunday morning, August 5,
near the village of Kouré (50 kilometres west of Niamey), following heavy
rains in various towns in Niger during the night from Saturday to Sunday,
causing substantial damage and road accidents with casualties and injured
people.
As league runners-up, Espoir FC, who had lost the cup final on Friday,
were returning to Zinder (900 kilometres east of Niamey), The bus of
the private transportation company "RIMBO" in which Espoir's players
and other passengers were travelling collided with another bus of the
same company.
Several team members are at the intensive care station of the national
hospital in Niamey, where they were visited on Sunday afternoon by the
prime minister of Niger, Seyni Oumarou, who inquired after their state
and expressed the compassion of the government to the families of the
victims.
