Unofficial Matches 1929-1935

The Scottish FA had declined invitations for separate tours to New Zealand and Australia due to financial arrangements and the distance and time involved. However, they decided to accept an invitation from the Dominion of Canada FA received on 18 October 1926. After discussion, arrangements were agreed a tour by 18 players, a trainer and four officials leaving Glasgow on 13 May 1927 and returning from Canada on 15 July 1927. The Scottish FA minutes state the match in Calgary was originally scheduled for June 11, Vancouver for June 25 and only match in Toronto on July 9 although the Scottish side played twice (July 10 and 11). Newspaper reports suggest these matches may not have been played on the planned dates. The date difference issue could be due to a change in the tour schedule or the timeliness when press agency match reports were sent to the UK. This sometimes makes it difficult to be certain that the match was played on the scheduled date.

  • Players: Archibald (Rangers), Blair (Clyde), Buchanan (Morton), Craig (Rangers), Cook (Dundee), Cunningham (Rangers), Gallagher (Falkirk), Hamilton (Rangers), Hunter (Falkirk), Morrison (St.Mirren), Muirhead (Rangers), McGrory (Celtic), McLean (Celtic), W McStay (Celtic), Rankin (Dundee), Scott (Falkirk), Swallow (St.Johnstone) and Simpson (Dundee United).
  • Trainer: Edward McGarvey (Celtic).
  • Officials: Messrs R Campbell, Colquhoun, Philip and McIntosh.
  • McGrory (Celtic) and Rankin (Dundee) were replaced in the final party by J McStay (Celtic) and Munro (St.Johnstone) respectively. By the time of the tour Simpson had transferred from Dundee United to Rangers.
