Spain - Copa Príncipe de Asturias/Campeonato Interregional

Tournament for regional selections (i.e. selections of players from clubs from the relevant region; players did not need to be native to the region), first organised in 1915 by the national committee of the RFEF (Spanish FA) in honour of the donator of the trophy, don Alfonso de Borbón y Battenberg, the first-born son of King Alfonso XIII and Prince of Asturia.
During the first four editions, all matches were played in Madrid. Prior to the fourth edition, the football clubs requested the abolishment of the competition, due to scheduling problems (the third edition had coincided with the final stages of the Copa del Rey). Only two regions (Centro and Cantabria) managed to assemble a selection for the fourth and last edition, and its winners (Centro) were given the cup to keep.
In July 1922, the Spanish FA resurrected the tournament (under the name Campeonato Interregional, and with obligatory participation by all member regions on the Spanish mainland) in order to facilitate the selection of players for the national team. Matches were now played at different venues, but due to logistic and financial problems it was decided to stop the competition after the third edition, which was played between the winners of the first two with the sole objective of deciding which region obtained the cup to keep.
