Brown Betty Cup

The Brown Betty Cup was offered by Brown Betty Dairies Ltd., a Georgetown dairy, and first contested in 1943, between the B.G.F.A. (the football federation of British Guiana) and the S.V.B. (Surinaamsche Voetbal Bond), unlike the earlier Walcott and Amo Cups, which involved the N.G.V.B. (Nederlandsch Guyana Voetbal Bond), a rival (catholic) football federation in Surinam. As far as is known, the cup was played for on five occasions; it had been intended to compete for it again in Paramaribo in 1951, but as the hosts insisted on matches over 2x45 minutes while the guests wanted to play over 2x30 minutes (as was usual in British Guiana), it was decided to play for another trophy (offered by the Heineken brewery) instead.
