Philippines again represented by Bohemian were weakened by the unavailability of their captain/coach Manuel Nieto, one of their star players, and replaced him with Juan Manalac, an 'outsider' from the Aurora club. The South China AA again represented the visitors, their captain Cheung Wing Hon was ill but was determined to play. And Nanhua's new goalkeeper, Lau Hing Cheong debuted allowing Leung Tai Fong to return to his more familiar centre-half position.
In a true 'game of two halves' the home team dominated the first half but failed to score, the Chinese took the second and scored two late goals both a result of Philippino mistakes. The first when Cacho completely missed the ball when attempting to clear and Au Kit San gratefully took his chance. The second when 'keeper Montserrat was caught out of position giving Wong Pak Chung an easy tap-in.

     Kwok Po Kan]
In one of the best games seen in years, both teams battled equally to score. On one occasion Lopez dribbled through the Chinese defence to score, only for the referee to disallow the goal for a foul, despite the fact Lopez's head was pouring blood. Just before half-time the Philippines scored twice to lead at the break.
The second half excitement continued and Au Kit Sang scored from a Kwok Po Kan pass after a great move. They spent the remaining 15 minutes trying to equalise but the home team held out, Loyzaga headed one attempt of the line meaning that a third meeting would decide the champions.

A tough match saw both teams vying for the title before Lopez opened the scoring around the middle of an exciting 35 minute half. The Chinese took the initiative in the second period and with clever accurate passing took control of the game. Montserrat under constant pressure finally cracked when he threw the ball straight to Kwok Po Kan who promptly equalised. Then with about a quarter of an hour to go he needlessly charged out of his goal leaving Wong Pak Chung with an easy chance and he scored the medal-winning goal.
