The Liga Amateur de Honduras, played between 1947 and 1964 before the introduction of a nationwide league, was contested between regional champions. The first four editions were organised by the Federación Nacional de Cultura Física y Deportes (FNCFD), the thirteen since 1951 by the Federación Nacional Deportiva Extraescolar de Honduras (FNDEH). The strongest regional league was that of the department of Francisco Morazán, which includes the capital Tegucigalpa.
