Notes: Contrary to many sources' records, the contemporary reports of The Glasgow Herald, Evening Times and The Bulletin explain clearly that Marcel Vonlanden played for Switzerland instead of Roger Vonlanthen and was the scorer of their second goal. Moreover, in the match preview on 6 November, in the Gazette de Lausanne, there is a paragraph in bold which says (translated): "Vonlanthen won't play. Roger Vonlanthen has telephoned J.Spagnoli [the coach] to say he was stuck in Milan, as the Italian travel agent he had booked a flight with had failed to come up with a ticket to Glasgow. The news meant a complete change of plans for the Swiss team." Then the match report on 7 November, in the Journal de Geneve, described how Vonlanthen had made it to Glasgow after all, but very late in the night. The Swiss selectors decided there was a risk he would be tired and unprepared for the game, so they decided not to play him and shuffled their forward line with Vonlanden at inside left, Meier at centre forward and Ballaman at inside right. Scotland qualified for the 1958 World Cup Finals in Sweden.
