NB: After Galatasaray and Ankara Demirspor finished the league with the same amount
of points, a discussion ensued concerning the question which club should be
declared champions. The Turkish FA decided that the two clubs involved should
play each other twice, at home and away. In the first play-off match, Ankara Demirspor
goalkeeper and captain Necdet Erdem attacked the referee and was suspended. As
a result the game was abandoned in the 78th minute, when Ankara Demirspor were
leading 0-1. The TFF awarded the win and championship to Galatasaray. However,
controversy concerning the ruling arose again, and the TFF even consulted FIFA.
According to FIFA the case was an internal matter and the champions should be
decided according to the regulations of the competition. Finally, the General
Directorate of Physical Education, the authority above TFF, regulated that the
winners should be decided by goal average. Since Galatasaray had the superior goal
average they were officially declared champions.
