Luxembourg 1915/16

In January 1915 (before the 1914/15 leagues had even started) new regulations were accepted according to which the first and second divisions were to be restricted to six clubs each, starting with the 1915/16 season, while the third level was to be divided into district sections if necessitated by the number of participating clubs; the clubs finishing sixth and last in each of the top two divisions were to be relegated automatically and replaced by the winners of divisions two and three.
The six participants in the 1915/16 first division were determined by the board of the federation and confirmed at a general meeting in July 1915. From among the eleven top level clubs in the 1914/15 season, the three clubs from the capital and the two fierce rivals from Esch-sur-Alzette were chosen without much discussion, but there was some debate about the sixth entrant, Stade Dudelange, at the annual congress held one month later in Diekirch, where some might have preferred the local Young Boys instead.
However, Stade themselves put an end to any remaining controversy by sensationally defeating reigning champions Union away from home in their first match; it was Union's first ever home defeat on the pitch in either the league or the by now defunct Challenge Steinès (however, they had had two home matches, against Differdange in 1910/11 and Sporting in 1911/12, awarded forfeit losses against them).
In spite of that upset, Union won the league for the fourth time in succession (mostly thanks to beating both their traditional local rivals, Racing and Sporting, home and away) while Stade finished last and went down – to be replaced by Young Boys Diekirch, who had been joined at the second level by the four remaining top level clubs from the 1914/15 season and second level champions US Esch (still referred to as SVg. Esch at the start of the season); only three of those six clubs finished the season, and the third level, formed by nine clubs in two sections, saw three teams dropping out as well, in spite of the fact that apart from the championship deciders in the second and third divisions, both played on the second day of 1916, the entire season was already finished before Christmas 1915.

Round 10 [Nov 28]
Sporting-Club Luxembourg awd Jeunesse de la Frontière [awarded forfeit win (0-0 goals) to Jeunesse; originally 4-2]
  [Sporting fielded only two players from their normal first eleven; two
   players were taken from their third team which had just finished its
   own match; they nevertheless won but apparently had fielded ineligible
   players; the fact that the match was awarded to Jeunesse with 0-0 as
   goal record suggests Sporting actually forfeited the match before it
   started and the two instead played a friendly, but the match reports
   in the Escher Tageblatt and Luxemburger Zeitung did not mention this;
   the award of the match to the visitors saved them from having to play
   off with Stade against relegation]
Racing-Club Luxembourg    5-1 Stade Dudelange
US Hollerich w/o Fola Esch/Alzette [awarded forfeit win (0-0 goals) to Hollerich; Fola dns]
  [Fola refused to play, claiming not to be able to field a "worthy" side;
   presumably they were miffed about their heavy home defeat against Racing
   one week earlier, which had robbed them of all championship hopes]

Final Table:

 1.Union Sportive (Luxembourg-Hollerich)        10   7  2  1  35-13  16  Champions

NB: the cross-table as given by [iff] (No. 32, p. 18) reverts home and away
    teams for a number of matches (e.g. between Union and Stade and between
    Fola and Racing) and includes a number of clearly invented results to
    arrive at a more or less correct final table as compared to [FLF 83];
    only Union's goal record is given correctly, although several of their
    results are wrong
