Ghana - List of Champions

Check also the list of Final Tables 1959-1987.

Football clubs were founded in Elmina, Saltpond and Winneba (all in the Central Region) before football reached Accra.
During the colonial time, an Accra league championship was organised, first in 1915. Since 1922 the winners were awarded the Sir Gordon Guggisberg Shield, won by Hearts of Oak in 1922, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1933, 1935 and 1953 (the last edition organised). In addition, they won the Goldcoast Club Competition in 1920.
