The first formal football match in Spain took place on March 8, 1890, at the Tablada Hippodrome in Sevilla, between Colonia Inglesa Sevillana (which consisted of British workers) and Recreativo de Huelva (which contained two Spanish players, all other being from Great Britain); hosts Colonia Inglesa Sevillana won 2-0.
